Youth division chicken cook-off held
Proves to be a fun addition to Foggy Bottom BBQ Bash
A new event was added to the Foggy Bottom BBQ Bash this year - the Youth Division Chicken Cook-off allowed youngsters ages 9-18 to show off their grilling abilities.
Contestants worked alone, except for setting up or in case of an emergency as determined by the contest monitors. They were allowed 30 minutes to set up equipment, prepare charcoal, etc. prior to the beginning of the timed event.
Each contestant prepared four 1 ¼ to 1 ½ pound chicken halves provided to them by the contest sponsors. One BBQ chicken half was presented to the panel of judges at the conclusion of the grilling.
The contestants had a 3-hour time limit on the preparation of the chicken, and they all seemed to really enjoy the cook-off.
Event coordinator Lynn Baker said the judges indicated that the professional cook teams participating in the Foggy Bottom BBQ Bash had better watch out because these youngsters know what they’re doing!
Those who sampled the extra pieces of chicken agreed with the judges!!
