Coffee County Circuit Clerk Mickey Counts notifies citizens that costs of court will be increasing later this month.
Counts said pursuant to The Act of Alabama No. 2012-535 (HB 688), the costs of court will increase on Thursday, June 21.
“Currently, this increase will be for a designated period of time until Sept. 30, 2015, and fund collected will be applied to the judicial system to help meet needs of the public,” Counts said. “These increases will not apply to juvenile and child support cases.”
He said the filing of new civil matters in the Circuit Civil, Domestic Relations and District Civil divisions will increase by $45. Small Claims division filings will see an increase of $15.
Counts said the filing of counterclaims, third party actions, executions, garnishments and default judgments will remain the same, only new case filings will go up.
He also said all traffic costs will increase by $26, except for no seatbelt and open container violations, which will remain the same.
All Circuit Criminal and District Criminal cases will increase by $40.
“Again, these new rates will go into effect Thursday, June 21, 2012,” Counts said.
