AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE SALARY FOR THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELBA, ALABAMA FOR THE TERM BEGINNING NOVEMBER, 2020

FORWARD AND REPEALING EXISTING ORDINANCE 1996-2 DATED JAN 22, 1996

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF ELBA, ALABAMA THAT: Section 1. That the salary of the Mayor of the City of Elba, Alabama, shall be and the same is hereby fixed at the sum of $20,000.00 annually. Section 2. In addition to the salary provided for herein, the Mayor shall be entitled an additional $75 per month for each 20 hours of Certified Municipal Official/Advanced Certified Municipal Official training attained up to a maximum of $300.00 per month. Section 3. That the salary for Councilpersons of the City of Elba, Alabama, shall be and the same is hereby fixed at the sum of $4,800.00 annually. Section 4. In addition to the salary provided for herein, each Councilperson shall be entitled an additional $25 per month for each 20 hours of Certified Municipal Official/Advanced Certified Municipal Official training attained up to a maximum of $100.00 per month. Section 5. Upon presentation of proof of the completion of each additional 20 hours of Municipal Official training, the Mayor and Councilperson’s salary shall be increased as provided herein beginning the next pay period after certification of proof by the City Clerk. Section 6. This ordinance shall become effective on the first Monday in November 2020 and shall continue in force and effect until repealed by action of the City Council. Section 7. In March prior to the next general election, the salary of the Mayor and Council shall be increased for the next term by the increase in city revenue in the current four-year period, but not to exceed the lessor of the average of employee raises or the CPI Increase for the time period. Section 8. All ordinances or parts of ordinances heretofore adopted by the City Council of the City of Elba, Alabama which are inconsistent with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby expressly repealed, specifically including Ordinance 1996-2 Adopted Jan. 22, 1996. Section 9.
