Hwy 141 house fire

The Elba Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by Opp Fire, extinguished this house fire last Thursday afternoon, March 26, before it could spread to other nearby structures. Elba Fire was dispatched to the house fire at 4385 Highway 141 just prior to 3 p.m. last Thursday, and the first firefighters on scene found the house fully engulfed in flames. Above, one of the first firemen to attack the massive burner actually is shown running towards the flames with water hoses across his shoulder. The firemen worked diligently and had the flames under control in less than 30 minutes; however, they remained on scene for several hours working to put out any flare ups and hotspots. While firefighters were battling the fire, a portion of Highway 141 between Danley’s Crossroads and U.S. Highway 84 was blocked off to traffic. Assisting firefighters on scene were officers with the Elba Police Department, Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, as well as emergency medical responders with Haynes Ambulance. No injuries resulted from this fire.
