Former Elba Tiger and L.B. Wallace Community College basketball standout Brosnan Cooks was recently named the American Southwest Conference ‘Player of the Week’ for his performances for the Belhaven Blazers, of Jackson, Mississippi, on the court against Mississippi University and Covenant College. Cooks scored 15 points, and grabbed 5 rebounds in the win over Mississippi University, and capped that performance against Covenant College when he exploded for 42 points, and connected on 69.6 percent of his shots from the floor, including 57.1 percent from behind the arc. The 42-point performance placed Cooks in third place all-time in the Belhaven record books. For the season, the 6-5, 210, senior guard, has averaged 18.1 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game and 4.7 assists per game. He has connected on 74 percent of his shots from the free throw line, 50 percent of his shots from the floor, and 32 percent of his shots from behind the three-point line.
