Elba's Griffin

Elba Tiger Crasade Griffin (16) sacks New Brockton quarterback Kaden Cupp (18) for a big loss in last week’s spring football action.

The Elba Tigers capped off spring football practice Friday night with a 12-0 win over the New Brockton Gamecocks, in a spring football game at Gamecock Stadium. Elba moved the chains on each of its first two offensive series and on its second series reached a first down and goal at the New Brockton 10-yardline behind the running of Iverson Lane, who gained 43 yards on four carries. A 9-yard loss on second down on a quarterback sack slowed the potential scoring drive; however, and the Tigers turned the ball over on downs at the Gamecocks 3-yardline. Elba regained possession near midfield and this time went 53 yards in only four plays to strike paydirt. A 31-yard scamper by Iverson Lane helped get the scoring drive off to a fast start, while the Tiger touchdown came on a 37-yard pass from Jaquez Prince to Dezmion Roberson. A two-point pass missed its target, but with 7:44 left in the second quarter Elba was on top 6-0. New Brockton threatened late in the half after a 47-yard dash by CJ Wilkerson moved the Gamecocks across midfield for the first time in the game, but a 10-yard loss on a quarterback sack by Crasade Griffin pushed the Gamecocks back across the midfield stripe and ended the half with the Tigers still on top 6-0. Elba’s first possession of the third quarter began at its own 35-yardline and once again the Tigers headed toward the endzone, only to come away empty-handed. Iverson Lane and Jaquez Prince combined to rush for 43 yards on five carries as Elba drove to a fourth down and one at the New Brockton 11-yardline. A holding penalty on fourth down wiped off a Tiger touchdown, and one play later the potential scoring drive ended when a pass was intercepted by the Gamecocks’ Julian Noble at the 4-yardline. Elba got the ball back four plays later when Paxton Wise recovered a Gamecock fumble at the New Brockton 12-yardline, and the Tigers cashed in the turnover when on fourth down Peyton McCart threw a pass to Kimdarius Hill, who tipped the pass into the arms of Tiger teammate Deshun Jordan, who waltzed into the endzone to complete the 18-yard touchdown toss. The two-point conversion again failed to produce points, but with 46-seconds left in the contest the Tigers had wrapped up the 12-0 win. Iverson Lane rushed for 110 yards on 9 carries to lead the Elba ground game, while Jaquez Prince added 51 yards on 7 carries and Collin Harrison rushed for 29 yards on 5 carries. Prince completed 1 of 3 passes for 37 yards and one touchdown and Peyton McCart connected on 1 of 3 passes for 29 yards and one score.
